
PSYCHOLOGY THROUGH FILM
Throughout SSP we watched and analyzed different movies that focused on psychology and mental health. We talked about the characters’ behaviors, emotions, relationships, and decisions while connecting them to real psychological concepts like addiction, eating disorders, trauma, identity, and emotional regulation. Each week we reflected on what we noticed and discussed how psychology shows up in real life through the situations and characters in each film.
SPLIT

While watching Split we focused on dissociative identity disorder and analyzed how trauma affected the character’s different personalities, behaviors, and actions throughout the movie.

In Silver Linings Playbook we focused on bipolar disorder and talked about how mood swings, emotions, and relationships affected the characters and their decisions.

In Beautiful Boy we focused on addiction and substance abuse disorders while analyzing how addiction affected both the person struggling and their family emotionally and psychologically.

While watching To the Bone we focused on anorexia and eating disorders and discussed how body image and mental health affected the main character’s behavior and recovery.

In The Truman Show we focused on paranoia, identity, and psychological manipulation while analyzing how Truman’s environment affected the way he thought, felt, and reacted.
