I chose to take pictures of a building for this assignment so I could compare how each camera mode changed the lighting, focus, and overall look of the same subject. Taking the photos in every mode helped me get more comfortable using my camera and understand the differences between each setting.

In the first photo I focused more on the whole scene to capture the environment around the person and show the city with all the lights, stores, and bars. I wanted the picture to feel busy and full of energy while still keeping the person as part of the scene.

 In the second photo I focused on the buckets at night and used the lights to highlight the car’s taillights and reflections. The contrast between the bright lights and dark shadows makes the car stand out more and gives the photo a stronger nighttime feel.

In this photo I captured a narrow alley leading to a parking garage. The buildings block most of the light so the front stays dark while there’s a brighter area in the distance, creating strong contrast and making the photo feel more dramatic while pulling your eye toward the light.

In the second photo I focused on the bike and I like how it stands out against the brick wall. The overhead light creates strong shadows which makes the photo feel more raw and dramatic. I edited the photo to make the contrast stronger and bring out the darker tones more.

In this photo I focused on the bird sitting on the fence and I like how it stands out even with the darker background. The shadows from the trees and leaves make the photo feel more calm and natural while the light hitting parts of the leaves adds contrast. I edited the photo to make the darker tones deeper and give it a more moody look.
